Description
-ELGIN NATIONAL WATCH COMPANY 15 JEWEL - GRADE 82- STEM WIND, LEVER SET- - RARE BROOKLYN WATCH CASE COMPANY 8 KARAT SOLID GOLD CASE- Hello to all bidders! Check this one out! Up for bids I offer to a you S/N 2232231 - circa 1886 15 jewel stemwinder. It is a Grade 82 grade 18 size with a micrometric regulator. Another fantastic watch I have to offer! This beauty is housed in an ORIGINAL solid 8 karat gold case. The case shows evidence of use but is what I would consider to be Very Good condition. I have not taken the time to polish the case but it is in very good condition, with all lids closing properly (no damage). Hinges are tight with no damage. The top lid opens properly and tightly to ~95 degrees. I absolutely, positively, GUARANTEE this case to be made of SOLID 8 karat gold. I have had it tested and it tests positive for slightly higher than 8K. The lids of the case are rather thin (further indicating solid gold) but are in good condition and quite sturdy. The entire case weighs in at ~46 grams so you can bank on there being a significant amount of gold in this case. I have added a photo from the Ehrhardt trademark book to substantiate the significance of the hallmarks. THIS IS THE ONLY ONE OF THESE CASES THAT I HAVE EVER COME ACROSS OR EVEN SEEN. I HAVE HEARD OF BUT ONLY A FEW. ANY SERIOUS EARLY AMERICAN WATCH OR CASE COLLECTOR SHOULD CONSIDER THIS FOR HIS/HER COLLECTION NOW - FOR YOU WILL LOOK LONG AND HARD TO FIND ANOTHER! In my 15+ years of collecting I have never seen another case by this manufacturer, and according to the Ehrhardt book the Brooklyn Watch Case was not extent for very long. The crown and bow appear to be replacements but the pendent holes for the bow and the stem tube are still intact and are not worn. They will properly support a new gold bow and stem. Winding and setting operate properly and the single sunk enamel dial is in Average condition with a few hairlines. The glass crystal is MINT. The 15 jewel movement is running with proper balance action, amplitude and poise! The balance is running true and EXCEPTIONALLY strong, indicating that it has never suffered a fall or any serious abuse. To top it off, this watch appears to be 100% factory original in every way, shape, and form! All polished and blued steel work is in fairly good condition and match, and the gilt plates are in average condition for this age of watch. IF YOU WOULD LIKE ADDITIONAL INFO OR PHOTOS, PLEASE ASK - I AM MORE THAN HAPPY TO ACCOMODATE! Anyway, no reserve on this one, and as with all my auctions, I start this one off at a penny! Happy bidding!!!! Any ??? please ask before bidding. Buyer agrees to pay with a money order or use PAYPAL and will include 6.15 for shipping, handling and insurance ONLY in the U.S.A..
