Despite the greater accuracy and reliability of quartz watches, the most expensive and sought after watches are still the tried and true mechanical watches. The most prized of these have automatic movements which are powered by the kenetic motion of the wearer. Due to improvements in the production of these watches, even watch enthusiasts of modest means may own one or more automatics. Despite the inherent beauty of their mechanics, we have all been frustrated by the need to manually wind them daily unless they are constantly worn. For those of us with several autos, "winding time" has become a daily ritual. This not only ensures that the watch is set, but is also recommended to keep the watch in proper running order. Fortunately there is a more efficient way to accomplish this - an electric automatic watch winder. Watch winders come as singles, duals/doubles, triples (featured here), quads, to wall units which house dozens at once. They rotate either clockwise or counter-clockwise (or both), and thus wind the rotor fixed to the back of the movement. Your automatics will be ready when you are. Q. When should I buy a dual winder that holds two watches on each turntable (1x2)  vs. one that only holds watch per turntable (2x1)?A. Winders that hold two watches per table are ideal for those buyers with watches that meet the following criteria: Both watches have identical Turns Per Day (TPD) requirements (e.g. both use 650 TPD bi-directional) The case diameter including crown size are not greater that 44-45 mm each. The watches have leather straps, or if metal, the wearer's wrist is no more than 7.25 in circumference Such winders have an obvious economic benefit since you are virtually getting to wind two watches for the price of one; however, they are not suitable if they do not meet ALL of the above criteria. For those that have multiple watches with incompatible TPB requirements (e.g. 1 @ 800 clockwise; 1 @ 650 bi-directional), have one or more watches that are larger than 45mm, or the wearer's wrist is larger than 7.25" in circumference, a winder that holds one watch per table (like the one featured in this listing) is more suitable. Some general thoughts to ponder about winders:A top of the line tri-winder (e.g. Orbita) retails for $1,800-$3,000. While much can be said about getting what you pay for, this amount is out of reach for many buyers who would rather invest the money in a fine watch. For the price of one of those, you can buy up to a dozen of ours. The winder featured here retails for about $250. We can offer this price because we purchase them direct from the factory. We offer the same warranty (1 year) as the other branded winders featured on Ebay. Fact of the matter is, we used to sell one of those brands, but discontinued carrying them due to an unacceptable defect/return rate; so don't be swayed into thinking that just because there's a logo on the front, that the components are superior to ours. Nevertheless, be wary of a triple or quad winder selling for under $60. If the warranty is 90 days or less, it's junk. Also check the shipping charge. If it's more than $25 within the continental U.S., you're paying too much. Also, make sure that the winder being purchased has a variable number of turns per day (TBD) and is bi-directional (rotates clockwise, counter-clockwise, and both directions). Anything less, and you risk overwinding (and damaging the movement), or at a minimum, an inability to keep your watch properly wound. If the TBD and direction are unknown (believe it or not, some manufacturers don't know as well), the instructions below will provide a guideline: 1)  Place your fully wound automatic watch on your winder (wind by hand). 2)  Set your winder to bi-directional winding at 1000 TPD.  If this setting doesn't keep your watch wound, go to step 3.  If this setting keeps your watch wound, decrease TPD to the lowest setting that still keeps your watch wound. 3)  Set your winder to clockwise winding at 1000 TPD.  If this setting doesn't keep your watch wound, go to step 4. If this setting keeps your watch wound, decrease TPD to the lowest setting that still keeps your watch wound. 4)  Set your winder to counter-clockwise (anti-clockwise) winding at 1000 TPD. If this setting doesn't keep your watch wound, please contact the manufacturer.
