Description
Hello All:Up for your consideration is my BNIB 2007 Girard-Perregaux “Laureato EVO3” Perpetual Calendar Chronograph in 18K-White Gold/Crocodile/18K-White Gold Deployant, with the medium-gray Guilloche dial. This distinguished Laureato, or “Graduate” for those who must Americanize, is GP Reference No.: 90190.53.231.BB6D, and it is both elegant, and massive. Before we proceed, I have a small question for the soon to be, and the already distinguished Laureates out there. Are you ready for some new horological shoes…? If so, then please step into my GP parlor for a fine fitting…!!This is one of Girard-Perregaux’s most spectacular, and most complicated Laureato’s, and is imminently worthy of your degree of achievement, advanced or otherwise. So, if you’re planning a winter Graduation, or already hold the hard-earned sheep-skin, the time to turn your tassel into tangibles is presently upon you…!!This is the third “EVO-lution” of the Laureato Chronograph since its introduction in 1975. For 2007, GP impresses us with their elephantine chronograph that was introduced in 2003 by adding a wonderfully complicated Perpetual Calendar function. That’s “Perpetual Calendar” kiddies, not annual, and that’s truly saying something…!!Measuring in at a massive 44 mm x 15.2 mm. A Breitling-like avoirdupois completes our amazed first impression, as this EVO3 tips the scales at a healthy 179 grams…WOW…! In the process, this latest and greatest Laureato make previous Laureato’s pale in comparison. What’s coming next will make your initial impression of this hulking Laureato a mere footnote.Witness ten hands in saber and dagger configuration orbiting just nano-inches beneath the slightly domed and AR-coated sapphire crystal. These marvelous hands create a perpetually moving Decalogue of horology, while contradistinguishing themselves with effortless legibility against a soft-white palette, done in checkerboard-Guilloche…Wow…!!For chrono functions, the Red-Enameled chronograph-seconds-totalizer hand (on the same axle as the hour and minute hands) is the only hand unique among the ten hands of the EVO3 Perpetual. It is impossibly slender, with a circular pendulum at its tail…very nice…! Maintaining dial conformity, the thirty minute totalizer is at nine-o’clock, the twelve-hour totalizer is at six-o’clock, and the sub-seconds are seen at twelve o’clock. These three matching daggers are White-Gold.Also White Gold are the Super Luminova stuffed hour and minute sabers, as well as the clever day-night indicator at three o’clock. Switching back to Red-Enamel dipped White Gold, you will see four hands inside four over-sized sub dials…sub dials that are amply ringed with thick, and wide, White-Gold bezels. At twelve-o’clock is the date indicator. At three-o’clock is the 24-hour indicator. At six-o’clock is the day-of-week indicator. Finally, at nine-o’clock you see the two-year indicator for the twelve months. This is a neat little trick that I have only seen GP employ. Gear reduction simplicity is the reason. The outcome is exceptional…!!There you have it, a total of ten hands, all orbiting to their own rhythm…complexity never looked or worked so simple…this is what Girard-Perregaux does so well…!Subtlety has always been a strong suit with Girard-Perregaux. While a substantial increase in size attempts to counter this fact, the Laureato somehow follows this “subtle-form” meritoriously. This is achieved primarily through the soft sculpting of the enormous case, and the integrated flow of the gorgeous Satin-Ebony Crocodile strap into its solid 18K-White Gold, single-fold deployant. The case has been alternately mirror polished, and satin brushed to extreme perfection, while the deployant is finished to a lustrous gloss.Inside this Swiss Sarcophagus the story continues. An automatic GP Cal. Q 031C0 movement spins with the friction-free help of 44 jewels, and is the sole construction of this “Manufacture.” The elaboration, as seen through the sapphire exhibition window, is stunning. The tiny screws holding this masterwork together are so intractable small, that even the most seasoned watchmaker finds himself flipping to a more powerful loupe, when scanning the Genevan plates and bridges.Girard’s impeccable mechanical adeptness, along with their ability to creating the finest pearlage, Côtes de Genéve, and hand-bevel edging has always baffled me…leaving me to wonder what I have accomplished, or ever will accomplish that can compare. My mere accomplishment is the ability to hold such an opus and enjoy what has been created for those with vision and appreciation. This is amazing stuff…!!Add to this a Perpetual Calendar that keeps track of the months, even as the days alternate. This horological veracity to the Gregorian Calendar proceeds for years on end without the need of any correction…Amazing…!Being “Brand New” this Perregaux shows no wear…it is flawless. A beautifully integrated, and proprietary designed GP padded Crocodile strap, in satin Ebony, with a single-fold deployant is gorgeous unto itself. With zero tolerance, this Croc mates to an equally gorgeous case. The straps mirror-polished deployant contrast beautifully with the alternating mirror polishing and satin brushwork seen on the massive case. In turn, the sub-dial bezels also sport some beautiful satin-polish work, thus completing a most flawless circle. If you haven’t had the pleasure of seeing and touching the near perfect Crocodile (I capitalize Crocodile out of fear an respect) that this manufacture uses, then you are indeed in for a treat. They must milk-feed these perfectly symmetrical Crocodiles near the glacial lakes in the Vallée de Joux. Crocodiles from Switzerland are exactly what you would expect from Continental reptiles…visually pleasing, refined, and wonderfully aromatic…nothing like your typically arrogant North American reptile…!!A screw down crown and two chrono pushers, a domed and AR-coated sapphire crystal, along with a six-screw caseback, done in 18K-Rose Gold and sapphire, combine to garner a 50 meter water resistance qualification. Then, as the sun sets, Super Luminova rides in like the Calvary on a Xenon light wave to guide you through another Dark-Eight…! Timekeeping, based on one-day wind-up, was +2 sec, and all chrono and perpetual functions operate, as they should, zeroing and lining up precisely. All factory sundries are present here. They include: Both boxes, the inner being a fantastic suede/stainless steel number with the large Laureato EVO3 plate, operating manual, intact Girard-Perregaux international two-year warranty card, service center manual, hang tag with matching numbers, and document box.The suggested retail for the Laureato EVO3 in this solid 18K-White Gold and Crocodile iteration is $53,500. These GP’s are hard to come by, as this manufacture keeps productions extremely, extremely limited on their Complicated timepieces, as well as on their Gold and Platinum models. Finding one with this particular complication combination is extremely toilsome, to say the least. They are all hand assembled, elaborated and finished by their master watchmakers and artisans. For this reason alone GP is near the top of most enthusiasts and aficionado’s top-ten lists. My “Buy-It-Now” price represents a true horological gift. The payment terms are as follows; PayPal (Confirmed Only), cashier’s check, money order, wire transfer or personal check (clearing time). Please note: Along with the above forms of accepted payment, I am also happy to accept the three main credit cards; Visa, Master Card and American Express.Insured UPS “Second-Day” shipping will be "Free" to anywhere in the USA.
