I was told that it was used in WW 2 by pilots on bombing missions. The back plate has been replaced with a glass crystal.The dial is very clean with no wear. There is a very slight nick at the edge of the crystal on the front at 8 o'clock. (see photos for more details). Additional photos available upon request.
