Description
Especially collectible antique Hampden pocket watch in gold Hunter Case with gold chain and pen knife fob, this item is extremely attractively priced.  Made in 1916, it is in better than excellent condition, and is a family heirloom that has been packed away for decades but still keeps good time with a very pleasant tick.  The watch case is about 49mm in diameter and about 13mm thick.  Beautiful and operational, a professional cleaning would correct any detractors but is sold as is. DIAL: Double sunken white porcelain with fancy bold black Arabic numerals with black minute marks between the numerals, red Arabic 5-minute numbers around the circumference, an accurate second hand, and signed in light script "Hampden Watch Co." MOVEMENT: 17 Jewel, Adjusted, Wm. Kinley grade (Canton, OH) with Safety Pinion, Serial Number 3193355.  Size 16.  Model 5 with Nickel Bridge, stem wind and stem set.  All signatures are in gold.  The stated year of production of 1916 is based on the serial number and available public production records. CASE: SWC Co (Star Watch Case Company) Hunter Model, Serial Number 2199016, 14k gold filled with lightly engraved details on the exterior.  The front cover, which opens by depressing the stem with the thumb, is more heavily engraved with the initials "H E W" in script.  The back cover has a country scene with a fence in the foreground and a mountain in the background.  The fancy inside of the dust cover has some minor discoloration in one spot, but whether or not this would remove with cleaning is unknown.  There are some minor scratches on the inside of the back cover below the pry-open tab.  None of these detractors is visible unless the back cover and dust cover are pried open. FOB: Made up of a 13 1/2" gold-plated heavy chain with a two-blade pen knife. When viewed under magnification, there is some minor wear evident on the gold plating. The pen knife has a gold colored, cross-hatched exterior handle and silver-colored blades.  Folded up, the knife is 1 7/8" long.  One blade is 1 1/8" long, and the other blade is 15/16" long.  The only identifying markings on the pen knife are "USA" on the base of the long blade.  The short blade has one tiny patch of discoloration that may buff out.  This knife has clearly been used, but is in excellent condition.
