It comprises a heavily built silver case, housing a high quality 13-jewel movement and fronted by a white porcelain dial. It has just been serviced and a new unbreakable alloy mainspring fitted. It is running strongly and keeping excellent time. The case dimensions are an impressive 57.9mm (2.283”) in diameter by 21.2mm (0.84”) deep. The total weight is a substantial 179grams (6.32oz). THE CASE The large, screw back and bezel silver case is stamped Fahys Coin No.1 inside the back cover, indicating it is made of 0.900 solid silver. The back is inset with gold in the form of a stag. The back and bezel screw on and off smoothly, the bow still offers resistance and the crown is well defined. The case does show some wear but it has aged gracefully and has a smooth, bright finish. I can see a few very small edge bruises and little dig marks but it is free of dents or scratches. This is a high quality, heavily built case (weighing over 4 ounces) and overall, it looks in very good condition, as you can see from the pictures. THE MOVEMENT The pendant wound & set, 13 Jewel movement is marked American Waltham Watch Co, Safety Pinion. The serial number of 3114558 dates production to 1888. It features screwed gold jewel settings, a micrometric regulator and ornately engraved balance cock. The movement looks in excellent condition with only superficial marks. It has just been serviced and a new unbreakable alloy mainspring fitted. It is running strongly and keeping excellent time. THE DIAL, HANDS & CRYSTALThe white quasi-double sunk porcelain dial, with sub-seconds, is marked Waltham and has black Arabic hour numerals, with an outer chapter of red 5 minute numerals. I can see a tiny filled chip near 10 o’clock and an associated very feint, short hairline. There is also a tiny scratch at the 58th minute mark. The dial is otherwise in excellent condition. The bright blued steel hands are tarnish free and the bevelled glass crystal looks virtually mint. SUMMARY This is a handsome looking vintage pocket watch from the Victorian era. It has a really fresh looking dial/hands/crystal combination, a high quality movement and a really heavily built case.
