Howard size 16s Series 0 pocket watch with a superior quality 23 jewelled ruby double roller movement with ruby banking pins its original fitted mahogany green velvet-lined case! This is a solid 14K gold open face E. Howard of Boston, Massachusetts pocket watch size 16s with a superior quality 23 jewels movement, the finest made of the period! The double roller movement is in sparkling pristine condition with gorgeous damaskeening and includes a rarely seen micrometric regulator, used on extra-fine railroad grade watches to adjust for gain or loss in a very precise way. The movement serial number is "953669" which I believe dates this rare 14K gold Howard somewhere between 1880 and 1910. Other markings on the movement are "E. Howard Watch Co. Boston U. S. A. ADJUSTED 23 JEWELS" in very fancy etched script. The watch case diameter measures 49mm. The 14K gold face cover with crystal snaps open & shut crisply as does the rear cover and cuvee. Inside the rear cover is stamped "HOWARD" in a shield followed by "14K" in a shield and below that "104125". Around the rim of the cuvee it reads "E. HOWARD WATCH CO. BOSTON." over a reeded circular background. Inside the cuvee is another stamped "14K" in a shield and the numbers "104125" with an "H" below that. The watch has a snow-white porcelain or enamel face and a double-sunk dial with red five minute numerals around the outside edge of the dial with black Arabic time numerals and black spade hands. The large second sweeper at the base of the dial is excellent and features red Arabic numbers. The dial is excellent with no hairlines. The rounded crystal is original to the piece with a thick beveled edge and also in excellent condition with no scratching, just extremely minor age wear to be expected of a piece of this age. The case has a brass button-snap closure and is also in excellent condition both inside and out. The green velvet shows no wear and has a fitted pocket that holds the watch solidly in place. It has none of the expected old musty smell that one often encounters in antique velvet and other similar materials of this age. The inside of the top cover of the case has the same green velvet lining with "HOWARD" printed in gold gilt. There's also a loop tab on the velvet to pull it up, probably meant for storing a watch fob or chain. On the cover of the case is written "HOWARD WATCH CO" done in fancy gold script. The mahogany case as well as the watch are both in excellent all-original condition. Condition Statement: Excellent. This antique 14K gold E. Howard pocket watch winds and runs as new, keeping perfect time. There are no dings or dents on the covers and no repairs anywhere. All hinges are perfect. The only minor issue is two tiny dings at the top left outside of the case and one at the top right side of the case. There is a well age-worn monogram on the back, so worn that its almost become part of the rear cover! Weight: 87.2 grams/3.07 ounces/2.81 Troy/56.1dwt The "time" is now to invest in gold in any form.
