This top-of-the-line Illiniois is 16 size (case diameter 50 mm), and lever set with 23 ruby jewels. Finely finished movement has gold jewel settings, gold train, gold balance wheel jewels, fancy sunburst damascening, micrometer regulator, and is marked Adjusted Temperature and 6 Positions, which is full Railroad adjustment. The movement condition is very nice with only minor handling marks.The case is 20 year gold filled and absolutely excellent with nice engraving and virtually no wear. This case is the right age for this movement, but probably is not the original case. Please be aware this early Sangamo was probably NOT cased in a Sangamo marked case as were the much later and more common Sangamo Special movements. Dial is original double sunk porcelain. Dial is excellent, but if you look very , very closely, you will find one, or possibly two (I can't see them right now, they are so faint) hairlines in the outer chapter, along with an edge chip completely covered by the bezel. Glass crystal is excellent! This is a very nice, but not quite perfect, dial. All in all, this is a very nice and early Sangamo 23j Railroad.
