Description
This is a beautiful old Elgin pocket watch featuring an ornate 14K solid gold hunter case and a multi color dial. It was made in 1888 – 120 years ago. The lever setting movement is Elgin’s 6 size, model 1. It runs with strong motion and keeps very good time. The case is a very ornate hunter model that is marked Warranted 14K U.S. Assay. It is a solid case, not the thin/flimsy kind that you often find with gold cases. The hinges are strong and open to the proper 90 degrees. The front latch and lift spring function properly. There are no dents or significant scratches. The initials RW are ornately engraved on the front cover. The bird and flower designs are still crisp, showing very minimal wear. This one must have spent most of its time in that top dresser drawer. The dial is a beautiful multi color glass/porcelain type. It appears perfect – not even any hairlines. The dial is complimented with an ornate set of gold color Louis XIV style hands and glass crystal - both in excellent condition. The watch measures 40 mm in diameter, not counting the stem and crown.
