Description
IWC PEERLESS CALIBRE 53 HALF HUNTER WATCH FROM 1900 This watch is in very good working order. The case is made from heavy solid silver, with many Swiss hallmarks. The front springs open neatly when the winder is depressed to reveal the enamel dial that is in very clean condition, though a very fine craze can be seen from the 9 to 2 on close inspection. Unfortunately the inner bezel is missing, but not such a problem as it is a half hunter. The watch springs to life with just the slightest touch of the winder, running very strongly and it also keeps perfect time. The hands are set by means of a lever function that is pulled out between 1 & 2. The very fine movement is signed S&Co and Peerless. The company used to import IWC movements for use in their highest grade watches for the UK. It has jewels set screwed gold chattons, a bi-metallic compensated balance and an overcoil hairspring.  The serial number on the movement relates to the IWC data base to 1900, which concurs with the serial number on the case that dates to 1900 from IWC also and the import hallmarks.  The most interesting feature of this fine watch is the connections to the British Military. On the back of the watch there is a beautiful inscription “Presented to Willie Ward, Sergeant D J Farrell, 2nd Battalion, The Border Regiment. Best Shot Sergeants 1902 – 1903. The watch was originally supplied by the Goldsmiths Company, as signed on the inner cover, who were supplying the military with many timepieces during the period. This very fine watch with all its history will be sold with no reserve.      Watch Specifics: Manufacturer IWC Style Half hunter pocket watch Model / Ref # 239744 on movement and 256604 in the case Condition Movement as new! I am quite happy to send watches to anywhere in the world and will remove cost of postage for a second item. I will not knowingly sell a watch with a fault unless I have noted it on the description. This allows me to know the watch has been arrived safely. Payment by Paypal, cheque or postal order please. The photo’s are taken with a good macro lens and tends to make any minor blemish look worse than it actually is and show up more than the eye alone can see.   Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.     Powered by eBay Turbo Lister
