Description
FIRST PRODUCTION ELGIN H. Z. CULVER SERIAL #1220, MADE IN 1867 This is a very rare pocket watch and highly praised addition to any collection. This is an Elgin H. Z. Culver produced in the first year of Elgin’s manufacturing. The serial number is #1220. That means it is the 1119 watch assembled at the new factory in Elgin in 1867, and the 219th Culver produced, since the H. Z. Culver started with serial number 1,001. This watch was produced in July of 1867; the Elgin factory started producing its first watch in April 1867. This is an 18-size Key Wind and Key Set H. Z. Culver that runs beautifully. It has one screw that is missing in the movement and can easily be replaced. The case is a heavy coin sliver case made by W & S (Warren & Spadone, they manufactured many cases for E. Howard Co. as well), with an eagle stamped below on the inside of the back cover. Engine turning is still plainly visible on the front and back of the case. The crest on the front cover has not been engraved. The dial is original and has never been repaired. There is a small chip near 7:30 on the dial and a couple of very light hairlines.
