Good luck bidding     This watch was made circa 1685 and is wholly original   The movement has true Tulip pillars, which were used in the late 1600’s as Tulips were introduced into England and became very fashionable and many objects, like watches, adopted and incorporated the tulip motif.   The watch has been cleaned and serviced and works well and runs the full length of its chain but please do not expect quartz like accuracy from a watch which is over 320 years old.   Movement – this deep gilt full plate verge movement has Tulip style pillars and a pierced cock with an irregular foot. The movement has an early heavy style balance. The movement is signed “Francis Stamper”, listed in Baillie’s Watchmakers of the World as a “Good Maker” and also Francis Stamper is listed as making in London at the Golden Ball in Lombard Street, he was apprenticed in 1675 CC in 1682, married that same year and died in 1698. The movement is in 95% mint condition with some scratches.   Inner case – the movement comes in a silver inner case, which has a hinged bezel. The case does have an old repair inside the case around the stem and also some numbers scratched into the inside of the case. There is also a 2mm split just on one side.   Outer case – the original and matching outer case has a large box hinge. The case has its original button and is in 90% mint condition – very little wear.   Dial – the silver champleve dial has a single hand. The dial is decorated is decorated with a central panel of floral engraving, with brushed silver edges.
