Description
I am currently listing a wide selection of Vintage Pocket Watches at great prices!!! Many of the pieces that I am offering are perfect for carrying and display and will make great gifts or simply treat yourself to a nice addition to your collection. Please view all my auctions for a super variety!Jules Jurgensen timepieces are almost always high quality and are easily recognized by their well signed, heavy gold cases. This piece is an excellent example that has remained very well preserved. The front cover of this 18K rose gold case is deeply engine turned with a small, circular, uninitialed shield set at center. The back cover is also engine turned. The covers taper on polished outer rings ending in a raised outer lip at the ver edge. The center ring or frame of the case is plain polishedThe case comes with offset hinges and is nice and tight. The dust cover or cuvette features an outer engine turned ring and is signed "No 11794 - Jules Jurgensen - Copenhagen - Patent 1867 January 15".The case is richly marked with raised 18K gold hallmarks and is signed "Julese Jurgensen". The serial number 11794 can be found on all three covers and matches the number on the movement confirming that this is an all original combination. The case is very well preserved showing only mild signs of use or daily carry. The only flaw on the case at all is a small bruise on the edge as can be seen in the photo below. The engine turning has remained sharp and crisp with some minor wear evident on the very outer edges. There are no additional dents or scratches on the case other than what I just mentioned. The front cover opens sharply when released and stops abruptly at 90 degrees. The back and dust covers also open properly. The hinges are VERY firm and the covers snap shut tight leaving NO play or gaps at all. The bow has also remained tight and the crown is unworn. The case exhibits a deep, rich, rose gold color. Overall, the watch measures 55mm (2 3/16") wide X 79mm (3 1/16") from the top of the bow to the base of the case X 16mm (5/8") thick. Total weight of the piece is massive 5.2 ounces (148 grams). The covers are thick and substantial in gold offering no significant flex when squeezed between the fingers unlike lesser quality, flimsy cases. The front cover opens sharply when released revealing a single sunk, white porcelain dial which is marked with Roman hour chapters and signed "Jules Jurgensen Copenhagen". Blue, Breguet moon style hands center the dial which also comes with an oversized sub seconds bit. I can find NO hairlines, edge chips, scratches or flakes on the dial at all. It is stark white and very clean. A glass crystal protects the dial and is scratch free. It rests in an attractive reeded bezel. The 18 Jewel, nickel bridge, stem wind and bow set movement is clean and bright. The movement is signed "Jules Jurgensen - Copenhagen". The serial number 11794 matches the numbers on the case and dates this piece back to about 1890.Many Jurgensen watches featured a unique time setting mechanism that is activated by the bow. With the front cover opened, the bow can be pushed fully forward toward the dial. The time can then be set by turning the crown. Once the correct time is set, straightening the bow returns the crown to the winding mode. The movement is clean and bright, showing normal, typical service marks but no rust or spotting. I have just had this watch completely and professionally disassembled, cleaned, oiled, polished, timed and regulated. The time sets fine. It also winds fine although, there is sometimes a little chop when turning the crown in the counter clockwise direction due to a weak spring. This doesn't impede the winding of the movement at all. If it is wound in the clockwise direction as it should be, the movement winds fine. It is running strong while keeping excellent time. All Original Jurgensen Watches Are Very Collectible. Well Preserved Examples Always Command A Premium And This Piece Is Certainly No Exception! This is a very nice, strong running watch that is ready to put to use or add to your collection. I am offering this item with a "Buy It Now" should you choose to end the auction early and eliminate last minute bids. I will also gladly consider any reasonable offer you may wish to make on this item. If I failed to mention something in my description of the watch OR there is erroneous information present, it is purely unintentional. In spite of as much care, detail and research as I try to put into the description of each and every timepiece I sell, it is inevitable that I will miss something on occasion. Please keep this in mind when viewing the pictures. Consider them carefully, in lieu of my description and make sure to e-mail me with any questions or concerns you may have PRIOR to bidding. I usually respond within 24 hours. Regardless of my description and photos here is the bottom line, I want you to be happy with your purchase.
