Description
Presented is a nice, circa 1908, high grade Elgin 18s grade No. 349 with 21 jewels housed in an unusual huge silveroid open face case, with its original double sunk dial and recently serviced movement. This movement is a nice looking and somewhat scarce, particularily in this condition, Grade No. 349 with 21 Jewels and is marked "Elgin Nat'l Watch Co. U.S.A. Adjusted 21 Jewels Saftey Pinion", bears the serial number 13398182, and has extremely fancy damaskeened nickle plates with gold lettering. It also has gold jewel settings and gold balance screws and is a lever set. This watch has been recently serviced and is running great with wonderful motion to the balance. The huge screw back and bezel case is in very good condition and has unusual engravings on the back, an eye, the letters FLT, and a skull and crossbones, as you can see in the images, and both bezels screw on and off properly. New beveled edge glass crystal. It is marked on the inside "Keystone Watch Case Co. Guaranteed Genuine Silveroid". The original dial is an attractive double sunk enamel with "Elgin" signed in block and features arabic numbers with the nice outer red 5 minute track and nice original blue steel hands. The only issue I see is one light hairline between the 12 and 1, and that's it. Most 349 dials that I've seen over the years are in generally rough/poor condition with this being one of the better examples I've ever had. All in all, I feel this is a very attractive and kind of scarce Railroad watch.
