~ NEAR MINT AMERICAN WALTHAM SIZE 18s HEAVY SOLID 18K GOLD 17 RUBY JEWELS HUNTER POCKET WATCH 1885 ~ ~ NEAR MINT AMERICAN WALTHAM 18s HEAVY SOLID 18K GOLD 17 RUBY JEWELS HUNTER POCKET WATCH 1885 ~ ~ Hand Engraved Scenes on Front & Back Covers/Scrolled Edges ~ ~ Provenance/Original Owners Name R. D. KELLEY w/Date 1885 Inscribed on Cuvee ~ ~ BUY IT NOW/BEST OFFER/FREE SHIPPING ~ Presenting for your consideration is this rare and outstanding very heavy antique American Waltham Watch Company solid 18K gold size 18s Hunter pocket watch inscribed with the original owners' name and date of 1885 on the 18K gold cuvee. The exquisitely damaskeened movement has 17 ruby jewels along with ruby banking pins, top of the line for the period! The case measures 2 1/8" side to side. The watch is stem wind, lever set and in outstanding condition both inside & out. Even the original large bow is solid 18K gold and shows appropiate wear at the top where it was hung from a watch chain or fob and wore down the 18K gold a bit. It adds tremendous character to this rare and valuable piece. This is an excellent opportunity to invest in 18K gold in a highly collectible antique American Waltham pocket watch dated 1885. Take advantage now before gold rockets over $1,000/ounce, which it will before you know it! The watch has its original mineral glass crystal that shows some light wear at the beveled edges but no scratching. The porcelain double-sunk face has four short tight hairlines, one at the 1 o'clock position and three very tiny ones at the bottom below the sunk second sweeper. It has black Roman numerals with red numeral five minute markers and its original blue steel open spade hands. The face reads "AMERICAN Waltham Watch Co." done in elegant black script. Now comes the best part...both front and rear covers are beautifully hand-engraved by a period expert with intricate scenes. On the front cover is a horseman wearing a period plumed hat riding a prancing horse with its front feet in the air. Behind them is a latticework gate or fence as if at a show. Bordering the scene and all around the edge of the watch is elegant engraved scrollwork and highlights. The rear cover features a highly unusual hand-engraved scene of a large open-winged eagle clinging to a shield with its talons while riding the shield on what appear to be waves. There are mountains in the background and an even richer floral scrollwork border around this scene. All three covers open at their proper angles and close crisply and smoothly. Inside the front cover is stamped "18" with a crown above it, the early mark for solid 18K gold. Below that is the number "13415". Inside the rear cover is also stamped "18" under the crown with the same number "13415" below it. The cuvee is also solid 18K gold and is stamped with rich provenance, most likely the original owners' name "J. D. KELLEY 1885". This name was probably a famous horseman of the period! The inside of the 18K cuvee is finished with a spectacular guilloche-type decorative pattern that is absolutely stunning to behold. The movement has many markings to include "American Waltham Watch Co." and "17 Jewels" done in fancy engraved script. It also reads "SAFETY PINION", "ADJUSTED" with the serial number 4,677,149 with an extraordinary 18K gold time adjuster shaped like a crown and gold gears. The damaskeening on the movement is of unmatched extravagance and beauty and shines like a diamond! This watch has been freshly serviced, cleaned & oiled and winds and runs as new. Condition: Near Mint given its extreme age of almost 125 years! Appears to be all original and winds & runs as new keeping perfect time. There is age appropriate wear to the fine hand engraved scenes and decoration. All hinges are original with no repairs. The only "issues" are the four previously mentiond tiny hairlines at the rim of the large porcelain face and a small repair to what was most likely a small ding to the bottom right edge of the front cover. There is also one unnoticeable tiny ding at the top right edge of the rear cover. This is a beautiful antique American Waltham pocket watch with provenance on the 18K gold cuvee... Weight: 119.4 grams/4.20 ounces/3.84 Troy ounces/76.8dwt Take off about .84 Troy ounces for the movement and you have an incredible three full ounces of solid 18K gold in this extraordinary collectible antique American Waltham pocket watch. That's about $2500 in scrap value alone at todays prices! And gold is going up...WAY up, very soon. This is an incredible investment opportunity as well as a wonderful piece to hand down through the generations! The "time" is now to invest in gold in any form. Add the rarity of this highly collectible large and heavy size 18s American Waltham Watch Company pocket watch made entirely of heavy 18K gold with provenance and dated 1885 and you have a real winner and unbeatable value!
